DESCRIPTION:
My goal was to create a series of three unique posters reflecting different typefaces (Baskerville, Helvetica, and Arial) from three different time periods (1450–1890, 1920–1960, and 1980–1999) while ensuring each individual poster relates to the others. Each poster reflects a time-period with its own unique pattern and color. The similarities in layout unite the posters. Flourishes such as the damask pattern on the Baskerville poster, reflect the influences of the Italian Renaissance, Rococo, Arts and Crafts Movement, and Art Nouveau on type from 1450-1890. From 1920–1960 more geometric and grid-like patterns were prominent, as in the works of De Stijl, the Bauhaus, and Swiss design. A collaged arrangement of geometric rectangles on the Helvetica poster reflect the Bauhaus style. And lastly, from 1980–1999, the information era was influenced by postmodernism, and the digital revolution. This is reflected in the digital pixel pattern on the Arial poster.
